The bridge, roughly 60 feet long and 10 feet wide, was built without any permission from local authorities, including the Purnea Municipal Corporation (PMC). When officials from the PMC tried to intervene, they were met with resistance from local residents—allegedly influenced by those with vested interests in the land.
The motive is as clear as the concrete structure itself: accessibility equals value. By making the area easier to reach, the brokers hoped to make nearby plots more appealing to buyers, thereby increasing land prices.
But this shortcut to profit has raised serious concerns about unchecked development and the influence of local brokers. “No permission was taken for this construction,” said Municipal Commissioner Kumar Mangalam. “We’re investigating who’s behind this and taking necessary action.”
